Alston Moor Parish Council — Grisedale Croft Working Group
A leaflet has been delivered to as many homes as possible across Alston Moor. The consultation on the future of Grisedale Croft Care Home matters to every household on the Moor, and the leaflet is there to make sure no one misses the chance to have their say before it closes on 19 August 2026.
It sets out, in plain terms, what the consultation is asking and what the Working Group found when it read the documents behind it: that Grisedale Croft has the lowest operating costs of the eight council-run homes; that the low occupancy now relied on to justify closure is the result of referrals being turned away, not of falling need; and that two ‘health beds’ were promised at Grisedale Croft in 2017–18, when the in-patient beds at the Ruth Lancaster James Cottage Hospital were closed.
Most of all, it explains how to respond. Copies of the consultation are at Alston Library, Garrigill Post Office and Nenthead Village Shop. Paper responses can be handed in at Alston Library, or posted with no stamp needed to Grisedale Croft Consultation, Freepost WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL. Responses can also be made through Westmorland and Furness Council’s online consultation page. The more people who respond, the harder the result is to set aside.
